Theology and Popular Music

Welcome to Theology and Popular Music with inspired by the Brehm Center’s immersion course to South by Southwest (SXSW), the annual music and arts festival in Austin, Texas. It walks through the history of the SXSW music festival, some themes found in the gospel of Luke, and music as a language to express deep longings of the soul. It delves into the intersections of popular music, psalms, lament, truth, power, and ways you can engage popular music in your own contexts.

Many photos throughout this course come from “Organized Noise” in Fuller Seminary’s FULLER magazine. We encourage you to read the story to get a sense of the immersion course before you begin. Note: films and articles contained in this material may contain language, images, and perspectives that some might find disturbing or offensive.
